Kalel Santiago, was 10 months old when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma. After undergoing multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment for two years, he was cancer free. “While he was in the hospital, we noticed he didn’t speak at all and had some behavior that wasn’t right, like hand flapping, and walking on his toes,” his father, Abiel Gomez Santiago, tells Yahoo Parenting. Now Kalel and his family would be faced with something more permanent to deal with; he was then diagnosed with a non-verbal and severe case of autism. After trying various schools and therapies, it wasn’t until Kalel was 9 years old that he would enter in the most controversial treatment of medicine- CBD oil. After two days of CBD treatment, Kalel’s parents were able to hear his voice for the first time.

“He surprised us in school by saying the vowels, A-E-I-O-U. It was the first time ever. You can’t imagine the emotion we had, hearing Kalel’s voice for the first time. It was amazing. The teacher recorded him and sent it to my wife and me and we said well, the only different thing we have been doing is using the CBD. He said, ‘amo mi mama,’ ‘I love my mom.’ I don’t know how to thank (the CBD oil makers).”

CBD, most popular for its medicinal effects, has been administered to children suffering from epileptic seizures and autism. Although it is extracted from the Cannabis plant, CBD oil has such low levels of THC that it has the ability to heal without the psychoactive properties. Amazing right?!
