Whether you smoke cannabis therapeutically or recreationally, I have some exciting news for the both of you. For a while it has been said that mangoes can unlock cannabis’ true potential, making your high more intense and psychotropic by eating it before you smoke. However, it had not been scientifically proven until recently. It was discovered that ripened mangoes which contains high concentrations of a chemical compound called Myrcene was also present in numerous cannabis varietals. Myrcene is one of the most important terpenes found in cannabis, it is responsible for the infamous “couch- lock” experience and also acts as a sedative, muscle relaxant, hypnotic, analgesic, and an anti- inflammatory compound. So what exactly are terpenes? Terpenes is defined as a large group of volatile unsaturated hydrocarbons found in essential oils of the plant. In Cannabis, it is the terpenes or often known as terpinoids that gives it its unique fragrance depending on which terpenes predominate.

Myrcene is an important terpinoid because it is responsible for passing THC through the blood brain barrier quicker by half the time it usually would take. Therefore, eating fresh mangoes or a fresh mango juice within 45 mins to one hour before smoking, is said to dramatically increase, strengthen, and even lengthen the effects caused by THC. Hence, unlocking cannabis’ true potential to the max. But some people may ask why they would even need to do that…. unless it’s strictly for the pleasure of truly getting baked. I will tell you one other reasons why; because Cannabis comes in a variety of strengths, and some strains may be less potent than others.

For that reason, whether it’s medically or recreationally this can favor both parties, more power to ya!

Tips:
Body weight and metabolism may play a factor in intensity and duration per each individual. Someone with a slower metabolism can take longer to digest, affecting how long it will take to feel the cannabis improvements. If you have a slower metabolism, make sure you try this on an empty stomach so other food doesn’t disrupt effects and as opposed to waiting 45 minutes, I would recommend waiting 60- 90 minutes instead.

For those of you wondering which mangoes to get Cavalo, Rosa, Espada, and Paulista mangoes have the highest sources for Myrcene.
